Density perturbations from both the inflaton and the curvaton

چکیده

We consider a supersymmetric grand unified model which leads to hybrid inflation and solves the strong CP and μ problems via a Peccei-Quinn symmetry, with the Peccei-Quinn field acting as a curvaton generating together with the inflaton the curvature perturbation. The model yields an isocurvature perturbation too of mixed correlation with the adiabatic one. Two choices of parameters are confronted with the Wilkinson microwave anisotropy probe and other cosmic microwave background radiation data. For the choice giving the best fitting, the curvaton contribution to the amplitude of the adiabatic perturbation must be smaller than 67% at 95% confidence level and the best-fit power spectra are dominated by the adiabatic inflaton contribution. This case is disfavored relative to the pure inflaton scale-invariant case with odds of 50 to 1. For the second choice, the adiabatic mode is dominated by the curvaton, but this case is strongly disfavored relative to the pure inflaton case (with odds of 10 to 1). Thus, in this model, the perturbations must be dominated by the adiabatic component from the inflaton.

Mixed inflaton and curvaton perturbations

A recent variant of the inflationary paradigm is that the “primordial” curvature perturbations come from quantum fluctuations of a scalar field, subdominant and effectively massless during inflation, called the “curvaton”, instead of the fluctuations of the inflaton field. We consider a cosmological scenario which mixes the standard and variant versions, i.e. where primordial curvature perturba...

Non-linear isocurvature perturbations and non-Gaussianities

We study non-linear primordial adiabatic and isocurvature perturbations and their non-Gaussianity. After giving a general formulation in the context of an extended δN formalism, we analyse in detail two illustrative examples. The first is a mixed curvaton-inflaton scenario in which fluctuations of both the inflaton and a curvaton (a light isocurvature field during inflation) contribute to the p...

Challenges in generating density perturbations from a fluctuating inflaton coupling

Inflation is the main contender for an explanation of the observed adiabatic density perturbations with a nearly scale invariant spectrum [1]. However, recently alternative mechanisms for generating the density perturbations have also been much discussed. In the curvaton scenario, iscocurvature perturbations of some light “curvaton” field are converted into adiabatic perturbations in the post-i...

Non-Gaussianity and large-scale structure in a two-field inflationary model

Single-field inflationary models predict nearly Gaussian initial conditions, and hence a detection of non-Gaussianity would be a signature of the more complex inflationary scenarios. In this paper we study the effect on the cosmic microwave background and on large-scale structure from primordial nonGaussianity in a two-field inflationary model in which both the inflaton and curvaton contribute ...

A scale-dependent power asymmetry from isocurvature perturbations

If the hemispherical power asymmetry observed in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) on large angular scales is attributable to a superhorizon curvaton fluctuation, then the simplest model predicts that the primordial density fluctuations should be similarly asymmetric on all smaller scales. The distribution of high-redshift quasars was recently used to constrain the power asymmetry on scales...
